FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. You must be a resident of Culpeper county.
2. No ferals.  
3. You are responsible for costs for rabies vaccine (required by Virginia law)
(average cost $11-16).
4. You are responsible for costs associated with cats who are in heat or where
the testicles have not descended ($25-$75).
5. You will be responsible for purchasing a lamp shade collar to ensure your cat
does not lick the incision.  Cost ranges from $10-$15.  You can sign a waiver for
this requirement which means you are responsible if your cat tears out the
stitches or the incision becomes infected.
6. Fees must be pre-paid via our website or by money order not later than one
week prior to your appointment.  NO PERSONAL CHECKS.

If you receive public assistance, all additional fees will be waived.  You must
provide proof of receipt of public benefits one week prior to your appointment.

FAQs

1. Where is the surgery done?

Answer:  at local spay/neuter clinics (Faquier SPCA, Kincheloe clinic, Prevent a
Litter Animal Hospital (Richmond), Charlottesville SPCA, the National Capital
Region Spay/neuter clinic.

2. When do I pick up my pet?  

Answer:  It is a same day surgery.

3. Can I get an appointment on a weekend?

Answer:  Yes, but only at Prevent a Litter Animal Hospital in Richmond, VA.

4. Who is responsible for transporting my pet to the hospital.

Answer:  if you are a home bound client of the Rappahannock Area on Aging, a
hospice patient or you receive public assistance and have no car, we will
provide transportation.  ALL OTHERS MUST TRANSPORT THEIR ANIMAL TO THE
CLINIC.

5. How many dogs can I spay/neuter with this program?

Answer:  A maximum of five.  All others are handled on a case by case basis at
the sole discretion of our organization.

6. Do rescue organizations qualify for this program?

Answer:  No.  However, if you need resources for grants, google, "animal
welfare grants."  There are grant opportunities for spay/neuter for bona fide
non-profits.

7. What if I am NOT on public assistance but, cannot afford the rabies vaccine or
additional charges?

Answer:  For every $7.00 our organization must spend on your animals, you will
be required to perform one community service hour BEFORE the appointment
is scheduled.  The work isn't hard.

8. How long does it take to get an appointment?

Answer:  it can take as long as a month, depending on the clinic.

9. What is the cancellation policy?

Answer:  You must cancel by telephone (you can leave a message) or by email
within 72 hours of your appointment.  If you do not, you forfeit your pre-paid
fees.  We have to pay the clinic for your missed appointment.  No more than one
cancellation.
